Spellcheck

Spell check is a software feature designed to identify and correct spelling errors in text. It compares the words in your document against a dictionary of correctly spelled words. When it encounters a word that doesn't match an entry in the dictionary, it flags this as a potential mistake.

How It Works

  1. Scanning: The spell check tool scans the text in the document.
  2. Detection: It identifies words that do not match entries in its integrated dictionary. This might include misspelled words, names, or specialized terminology not in the dictionary.
  3. Suggestions: For each potential spelling error detected, the spell check feature suggests correct alternatives based on similar spellings.
  4. Correction: You can then choose to ignore the flag (if, for example, it's a proper name or specialized term that's spelled correctly), add the word to the dictionary (to prevent it from being flagged in the future), or select one of the suggested corrections.

Features and Considerations

Launchpad has several features that improve the convince and functionality of the service.

  • Enable or Disable: The service can be enabled or disabled via tick-box.
  • Language: This allows for the selection of the language that will be used in the spell check. Only one language can be selected at one time.
  • Max Number of Suggestion: Configures how many alternate spelling options will be returned when the dropdown is actioned on a grammatical error.
  • Ignore Words with Numbers: When enabled will ignore any words that have numbers from the spell check. Default enabled.
  • Ignore Words with Special Characters: When enabled will ignore any words that have special characters from the spell check. Default enabled.
  • Sentence Case Sensitive Suggestions: Provide suggestions for corrections based on the case sensitivity of the first letter of sentences. Default enabled.
  • Uppercase Sensitive Suggestions: Provide suggestions for corrections with an awareness of the need for uppercase letters in specific contexts, beyond just the start of sentences. Default enabled.
  • Lowercase Sensitive Suggestions: Provide suggestions for correction with an awareness for words that should be in lowercase rather than uppercase. This feature is particularly useful for ensuring adherence to grammatical rules and stylistic conventions that dictate the use of lowercase letters in certain contexts. Default enabled.
  • Words to Ignore from Spell Checking: Specify certain words that the spell checker should not flag as errors.
